The 1st ELITE International Conference was held in collaboration with Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, on 26-27 November 2013. The conference featured the theme The Multifaceted Dimensions of Linguistics and Literature, serving as a platform for scholars and researchers to share ideas, perspectives, and research findings across various fields of linguistics and literature.
The two-day event covered a wide range of topics, including linguistics, literature, ICT/CALL (Information and Communication Technology/Computer-Assisted Language Learning), ESP (English for Specific Purposes), English, culture, and society, as well as the integration of Islamic values within the English language dimension. The conference also welcomed discussions on other related subjects that contribute to the advancement of linguistics and literary studies.
Distinguished plenary speakers at the conference included Chitra Shegar from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Fabio Coelho from the US Embassy; Prof. Dr. Hj. Siti Chamamah Soeratno from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta; and Effendi Kadarisman, M.A., Ph.D from State University of Malang.
Dr. Hj. Like Raskova Octaberlina, M.Ed, President of the Association of English Lecturers under the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, through this conference, said that this collaboration aims to strengthen international academic networks and promote research in linguistics and literature, while enhancing the role of English in the context of culture and Islamic values.
